What's the Society for Creative Anachronism? It is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dress in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events that feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes and workshops, and more.

The Barony of the Starkhafn, includes Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. Please click here for details about the specific areas that lie within the Barony's borders.

Have you ever wished you could travel backward in time to an age when Chivalry and Honor were commonplace? Ever wanted to feast by candlelight or fight with knights in armor? How about sing ballads, weave tapestries or illuminate manuscripts? Classes are offered on a wide range of topics, from medieval costuming, cooking or singing to fighting and armoring. Weekend events are held with tournaments, courts, feasts and revels. Please join us at one of our meetings! For more information, browse the site, learn more about us, check out our photos, or contact our local (newcomer liason).

In addition to the information on this site, you can learn more about the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and the kingdom within which our Barony resides, the Kingdom of Caid.

We invite you to join us on the Starkhafn E-Mail list or on Facebook where you can meet and chat with the Baronial officers, local members and find out more about what we do.

Straw Poll for the next Reeve and Reevess

The Search for Heirs Begins

If you were at Sumbl at Talon Crescent War, you heard us announce our intention to step down next year, at Starkhafn Anniversary in 2016. We wanted to let everyone know the process we will be following to select our heirs and assure an orderly transition.

1. We ask that interested couples submit letters of intent to ourselves ( and ), with copies to The & Kingdom between now and Friday, March 6, 2015. Include your SCA resume noting responsibilities held in the past and current interests, activities in the Barony, and any other qualifications that you feel prepare you for the position. Please include a phone number and contact information. Please note that we will wish to speak with you before step 2.

2. All interested couples should plan to present themselves before the populace at the Baronial Meeting on Monday, March 9, 2015 to answer questions about their history in the SCA, their vision of the future of the Barony, and their knowledge of the Society, Caid, and Starkhafn. We invite all members and friends of the Barony to attend.

3. We will continue to consult with the peers and populace of the Barony, to learn what thoughts and insights you all have concerning the couples who have looked toward this momentous challenge. We will take such counsel from our people until Friday, March 27, 2015.

4. We will also have discussions during the same period with each couple, to assure that all understand the tremendous commitments of time, resources, money and heart this position will demand.

5. At Crown Tourney, on Saturday, March 28, 2015 we will confer with Their Majesties about the couple we feel will best fulfill this task. That same day, we will contact all couples to inform them of the decision, and announce the result.

6. At Starkhafn Anniversary, on April 11, 2015 we will invest our Reeve and Reevess at opening court. They will then begin to travel with us to events, to interact with both our populace and the rest of the kingdom, and to participate in the duties and responsibilities of the Baronage.

7. In the January / February 2016 timeframe, a notice will be placed in the kingdom and baronial newsletters that we will be having a polling to inform Their Majesties that the Reeve and Reevess have the support of the populace as our successors. This polling is conducted by the kingdom seneschal’s office, using the corporate database of addresses to send a mailing to every paid member of the SCA who resides within the Barony of Starkhafn.

8. Assuming there is no significant resistance to their succession, the Crown will invest the new Baron and Baroness at opening court at Starkhafn Anniversary in April, 2016.

We are looking forward to this process and hope that all within and without the Barony will help make this a smooth and joyous process.
